Poster Design in Oxford
Posters for Oxford businesses and venues — window displays, in-store promotions, event bills and notices. Designed for the distance they are actually read from, which is the constraint that separates a poster that works across a room from one that only works held in your hand.
Why this comes up
The problem
Posters are designed on a screen at arm's length and displayed across a shop floor or a street. Type sized to look balanced on a monitor is unreadable at the distance the poster is seen from.
What you get
What we deliver
- Type sized for real viewing distance, checked by printing a section at full scale
- A hierarchy that survives a glance — the one thing to read first is unmistakable
- Resolution set to the format, since a large poster is viewed further away and needs less
- Colour prepared for the print process, including large flat areas that show banding
- Sizes supplied for each place it will appear, rather than one file scaled up and down
- Print-ready artwork with the mounting or display method accounted for

Working in Oxford
South East
Oxford's economy runs on research and life sciences, and a lot of the work here starts with a research group or spin-out that needs a prototype turned into something other people can safely use.
Research groups and spin-outs needing a prototype turned into a supportable product make up most of the local demand.

Poster Design in Oxford — common questions
- How big should the text be?
- Governed by viewing distance rather than by the poster's size. A rough working rule is about 25mm of cap height for every 10 metres of distance for a headline. The reliable test is printing a section at full size and standing where the viewer will.
- What resolution do you need for a large poster?
- Less than people assume, because large formats are viewed from further away. A billboard at 300dpi is enormous and unnecessary. The specification comes from the printer and the viewing distance together.
- Will the colours match our other printed material?
- Close, not identical, unless spot colours are used. Different presses and stocks shift colour, and a poster printed large-format will not exactly match a litho-printed brochure. Where exact matching matters, that needs specifying up front.
- Can the same design work for social media?
- The message can; the layout usually cannot. A poster is designed for distance and a social post for a small screen held close. Adapting properly is quick, resizing blindly is what produces unreadable posts.
- Do you work with businesses across Oxfordshire?
- Yes. We are based in Leicester, United Kingdom and work with clients throughout South East, including Oxford and the surrounding Oxfordshire area. Most collaboration happens remotely, and we travel for kick-offs and key milestones.
- What kind of Oxford businesses do you usually work with?
- Research groups and spin-outs needing a prototype turned into a supportable product make up most of the local demand. Beyond that we work across Research & Higher Education, Life Sciences, Publishing, Technology and Tourism.
- Do you cover the areas around Oxford?
- Yes — we work throughout South East, including Reading, Milton Keynes, Cambridge, London. Oxford is an urban area of roughly 170,000+, and we take on work across the wider Oxfordshire region rather than the city boundary alone.
