- A small set of additions rather than a rewrite. The new criteria address how clearly focus is shown, alternatives to dragging, minimum target sizes, keeping help in a consistent place, avoiding cognitive tests during authentication, and not requiring information the user already entered.

- Because sign-in routinely excludes people. Steps that require remembering a password without allowing a manager to fill it, transcribing a code by hand, or solving a puzzle create barriers for people with cognitive disabilities — so an alternative route has to exist.
- Is target size a real problem?
- On mobile interfaces, frequently. Controls placed close together — an icon row, adjacent links, a compact date picker — are difficult for anybody with limited dexterity, and the criterion sets a minimum with defined exceptions rather than demanding everything grow.
- Do we need a full reassessment?
- Not if the previous work was sound. Where a site conformed to the earlier version, the efficient approach is testing specifically against the new criteria and remediating those — a full audit from scratch mostly re-establishes what you already know.
