- Because it is a contract and a screen is not. Interfaces are redesigned without notice and their elements move, whereas an API changes deliberately and usually with warning — so any part of a process achievable through one should be, even if the screen was easier to record.
- What makes a selector resilient?
- Anchoring on things that do not change. Generated selectors often depend on position or generated identifiers, which break on the next update, whereas selecting on stable attributes and nearby labels survives considerably more redesigns.
- How should failures be handled?
- Visibly, and with the partial work considered. A robot that stopped halfway through a batch has left some records processed and some not, so the exception path needs to record where it reached — otherwise the recovery is a manual reconciliation.

- Somebody will need to, regularly. Interface automation is not a build-once exercise, and organisations that resource development without resourcing maintenance find their automations quietly stop working over the following year, one application update at a time.
