- SAML or OpenID Connect?
- Whichever the application supports — you rarely get to choose. OIDC is more modern and simpler to implement; SAML remains widespread in enterprise software. Many organisations end up running both, which is normal rather than a design failure.
- What is a break-glass account?
- An emergency account excluded from conditional access policies, with credentials held securely offline. Without one, a misconfigured policy or an identity provider outage can lock out every administrator including the person who could fix it.
- Does SSO replace multi-factor authentication?
- No — it makes MFA more effective by applying it once at the identity provider rather than inconsistently per application. SSO without MFA actively concentrates risk, because one compromised password now opens every connected system rather than a single one. The two belong together, and deploying SSO alone is worse than the position you started from.
