- When the work is waiting — network calls, file access, database queries. For computation they largely do not, because the interpreter permits one thread to execute Python bytecode at a time, so parallel computation needs separate processes instead.
- Async or threads for I/O?
- Async scales to far more concurrent operations and requires the whole path to support it. Threads work with ordinary blocking code and cost more per operation — for a few dozen concurrent calls threads are simpler, and beyond that async wins.
- Why does environment reproducibility matter so much?
- Because Python installations diverge easily. Different transitive versions on different machines produce failures that reproduce nowhere, and locking the full dependency set removes a category of problem teams otherwise spend days on repeatedly.
- Is type checking worth it in Python?
- On anything substantial, yes. Annotations are optional and a checker uses them to find real defects before execution — and the value is highest at boundaries between modules, where assumptions differ and nothing else catches the mismatch.
