- It raises the difficulty and does not stop a determined tester. Pinning is worth implementing to deter casual interception, and it should not be relied upon as a security boundary — it can be bypassed on a device the attacker controls.

- It usually should, because that is where exploitation happens. Testing the app in isolation identifies client weaknesses; testing it against the API establishes whether those weaknesses lead anywhere, which is the question that actually matters.
