Microsoft 365 Backup in Hull

Backing up Hull organisations' Microsoft 365 data, which many assume is already handled. Microsoft operates the service and guarantees its availability; responsibility for your data remains yours, and the built-in recycle bins are short-term recovery rather than backup — a deletion discovered six months later is generally unrecoverable.

Why this comes up

The problem

Everything is in Microsoft 365 and nobody has established what happens if a mailbox is deleted, a site is wiped, or an account is compromised.

What you get

What we deliver

  • Coverage across mail, files, sites and chat rather than mailboxes alone
  • Retention set to reach back beyond how long deletions go unnoticed
  • Backups held independently of the tenant they protect
  • Restore tested, including a single item and a whole mailbox
  • Leaver data handled, so departures do not remove what the business needs
  • Retention obligations met, since some records must be kept for defined periods

Hull has rebuilt around offshore wind and port logistics, and it is one of the few UK cities with its own independent telecoms network rather than the national infrastructure everywhere else uses.

Microsoft 365 Backup in Hull — common questions

Does Microsoft not back this up?
Microsoft protects the service against its own failures and replicates data across its infrastructure. That is not the same as protecting you from deletion, ransomware or a departing employee clearing a mailbox, and the shared responsibility model states this explicitly.
Are the recycle bins enough?
For accidents noticed quickly, often yes. They hold deleted items for a limited period and then purge, so anything discovered after that window — which describes most serious data loss — is gone. Backup exists to cover exactly the gap the recycle bin leaves.
What about a compromised account?
This is the strongest argument for independent backup. An attacker with valid credentials can delete mail and files at scale, and native protections operate within the same tenant they have access to. Backups outside it are what make recovery possible.
What happens to leavers' data?
It usually disappears with the licence, which is how organisations lose project history and client correspondence months after someone departs. Deciding what to retain, for how long, and where it lives is a policy question the backup arrangement should implement.
Do you work with businesses across East Yorkshire?
Yes. We are based in Leicester, United Kingdom and work with clients throughout Yorkshire & the Humber, including Hull and the surrounding East Yorkshire area. Most collaboration happens remotely, and we travel for kick-offs and key milestones.
What kind of Hull businesses do you usually work with?
Port, freight and renewables supply chain systems, plus connectivity work that has to account for the local network. Beyond that we work across Ports & Maritime, Renewable Energy, Manufacturing, Healthcare and Logistics.
Do you cover the areas around Hull?
Yes — we work throughout Yorkshire & the Humber, including York, Leeds, Doncaster. Hull is an urban area of roughly 290,000+, and we take on work across the wider East Yorkshire region rather than the city boundary alone.
