- Three copies of the data, on two different media, with one held off site. Modern practice adds one immutable copy, because the off-site copy is worth little if it can be encrypted from the same network.
- Does Microsoft 365 back itself up?
- Not in the way people assume. It replicates for availability and retains deleted items briefly, and Microsoft states that data protection is the customer's responsibility. A separate backup is needed and is very often absent.
