- What happens to our file server?
- It can move to Azure Files with permissions preserved, or to SharePoint if the usage pattern actually suits it. Permissions are the part that goes wrong — inherited NTFS structures built over a decade need mapping deliberately, not copying hopefully.
- Will staff notice a difference logging in?
- They should not, if directory synchronisation is set up before the move. Where a business is still on a local domain, extending identity into Azure is the first task rather than an afterthought.
- Should SQL Server stay on a VM?
- Often not. Azure SQL Managed Instance removes the patching and backup work and frequently costs less overall. Compatibility gets checked during assessment, because a small number of features do not carry across.
